Somewhat, yes. It's old style Deerhunter, though. They seem to have ditched a lot of the purely ambient soundscape-based ideas that were at the forefront of Cryptograms. The album got better towards the end, where, with songs like Heatherwood and Hazel St., they began to exhibit something more akin to the template they would come to adopt on later records.
On the whole, though, I find much of the non-song elements of Cryptograms to be boring, and for me this sets it apart as a weaker record.
