melodic death metal is one of my favorite genres of metal and in flames is one of my favorite bands. i figured i'd start a thread with the intent of discussing melodic death metal/viking metal or a slight variation of these genres but keeping a similar sound as some people have different ideas about what genres bands should be in. discussion on bands, recommendations of good bands you've heard, or you favorites are welcome. i haven't seen a thread on this genre specifically so if there is one someone please point me in the right direction.

some of my favorites right now are in flames, dark tranquillity, children of bodom, mors principium est, ensiferum, and nightwish(i tend to call them operah metal though but close enough).

hopefully we'll get some good discussion and find some new bands i've haven't heard of.
