do you not realize you sound exactly like that guy with the mullet, the molestache, and the camaro who flipped out when motley crue, bon jovi, poison, cinderella, ratt, warrant, winger, etc all went down the mainstream crapper circa 1990?
learning about music is like learning to eat. at first it doesn't matter, you take anything you can get. then once you start teething (rebelling as a teen) you start getting spoon fed and develop personal tastes, you can turn up your nose to whatever you don't like (start paying attention to mainstream outlets and what they offer). then eventually you have to head out on your own and feed yourself, with whatever suits your fancy. (move past the mainstream and get music 'you' like from wherever you can find it without needing some sort of chart based validation)
so basically at this point you have 2 options. either become an oblivious caricature of those same hard headed 80s music fans with a new wardrobe and soundtrack. OR... learn to find new music and trust your personal judgement on it. the days of being spoonfed the 'good' stuff are over.
