Theres nothing cool about that, as you rightly state but if anything I would say Metallica allowed the release of a film that portrayed them at the point of self destruction rather than released something that they believe makes them look at all "cool". Thats what I like about it, it isnt self indulgent its actually rather cringeworthy at times to see how they were carrying on around one another. They could have gotten rid of the camera's at any point and cancelled the documentary and if you recall there is a scene IN the film where they consider doing that.
