You can't pick up an instrument and expect to be amazing after the first week. It takes dedication and practice.
Once you get better at it, your fingers move by themselves. It can be great fun when you listen to a beat and you improvise a solo.
My girlfriend plays the drums and they look like a lot of fun. However, you can't bring a drum kit to a campfire and serenade your buddies.
