I finished reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy a few days ago. Of the three things I've read by him, probably his overall greatest and most rich book. It explores a lot of the same themes that he touches upon for, say, No Country for Old Men, but to a far more satisfying and interesting degree.
Almost done reading John Updike's Rabbit, Run. While I'm certainly not gah-gah over it, this man's prose is one of the best I've ever read. Writing and narration that reads so goddamn well, and nothing as far as situations or incredible characterization is beyond his grasp.
