(But I agree about the band names; even when ripping CD's, there are apparently three variations on "Echo & The Bunnymen").

Why would you be proud of not downloading music? Buying CDs supports the recording industry, not the artists. Most money that musicians make are from gigs and tours. At most, musicians make $1-2 from each CD, depending on contractual agreements. And if it's not a band that's capable of selling a large volume of CDs, probably far, far less.
Downloading music keeps me coherent and allows me to discover these bands which I support by seeing their acts in person. If you don't download music, you're subject to dealing with the record shops' selection. And just so you understand, there are only three independents in all of Pittsburgh. Kind of restricts your musical taste if you don't download.
I download music because I enjoy music and I actually DO want to support the recording artists. Not the other way around.
