Nice try, but I've actually listened to a
ton of the Dead.
Not only have I had a large number of friends and roommates over the years who were fans, but just last year I got into a similar conversation to this one with a deadhead on another forum who wound up giving me five or six hours of their best live performances to listen to. I took my time and gave all of it an honest, open-minded listen and found 99% of it to sound like long, boring country-ish music. The only song I have ever heard by them that sounds even remotely spacey or psychedelic is "Darkstar", and even that is kind of meh.
