The Beach Boys were one of the greatest bands ever. Pet Sounds is possibly the greatest album ever made.
I just regret that Brian Wilson wasn't able to get SMiLE done when he and the Beach Boys were in their prime. The version he did in 2004 with the Wondermints isn't bad, but Brian's voice is just not the same.
Pet Sounds and SMiLE could have been the best pair of albums any one band produced (though, clearly debatable).
I think the most underrated track they did was "Surfer Girl." Everything on Pet Sounds is well-rehashed, as are most of the famous tracks meant for SMiLE ("Good Vibrations," "Heroes & Villains," "Surf's Up"), but "Surfer Girl" is generally lumped in with their earlier surf-pop hits. However, it's a beautiful, lush track that deserves as much regard as any of the Beatles' or Beach Boys' later tracks.
