Mastodon will never play a smooth Kenny G riff or Liberace piano roll in their arrangements. LOL. In all seriousness, I see your point, but Dailor is redefining the way metal drummers play by being the lead/solo instrument in many of their songs, leaving the guitars to anchor the rhythm. DT has the kind of standard "here's the drum part, here's the guitar solo...and lets not forget the woodwind/piano player." Though some parts sound like the band is playing backwards extremely fast, I think you'll find Blood Mountain very melodious, the more you listen to it. Remission has a more immediate appeal, very brutal and full of heavy riffs.
