I, for one (no pun intended), think "Harvester of Sorrow" was just about the best metal song of the 80's. There seem to be two classes of metal fans: "Master of Puppets" people (which is a lot of them) and "...and Justice For All" people (which always seem to be the people who actually know what they are talking about -

Of course, this is excluding that third class - to whom you ask: "What's your favorite Metallica album?" and they answer "The Black Album". Those are the Kid Rock / Linkin Park types that need not even enter this discussion.
I think people chose "Master" over "Justice" because of Cliff Burton, but I think Cliff's death caused Metallica to make their best album... You can hear the anger and the anguish in the sound... It's absolutely where they peaked, and not before.
