I read a lot of history/fantasty/D & D type of things to offset my more serious reading.
DAVID GEMMELL- anything by him. i love his stuff.
PIERS ANTHONY-his INCARNATIONS OF IMMORTALITY series is excellent.
BERNARD CORNWELL-the Arthurian trilogy is probably the best retelling ever written. Bold gritty and bloody. Also try STONEHENGE.
STEVEN LAWHEAD-His TALIESIN trilogy links the Atlantis and Arthurian trilogies.
