So I found something to offset our wonderful Korn, Seether, Muse and Dream Theater faced rock forum. NEW ELECTRIC WIZARD.
Electric Wizard - Witchcult Today [2007] « Drought
I like it. Hazey. It's fabulous. Psychedelic. It feels so good. Clinical.
The opening title track starts off with a bit of mild static before a solitary guitar moves in and it's not long before EW are playing one of their gorgeous jams. You're comfortable with the start they've made, let it be time for their trademark distant vocals to dawn over the horizon of the music. A great 8 minute opener.
Things pick up with track 2, Dunwich, the tempo is faster, it feels more concentrated than the opener, Witchcult Today, and it certainly sets up Satanic Rites of Drugula nicely. Which is a fu
cking killer tune by the way, even with the really cheesy song title haha!
It could be lazyness, or it could be a favour, but thats as far as my sampler review goes. Electric Wizard are by far and away one of the form bands of late and don't let anyone fool you, some metal is simply brilliant. These guys prove that.
