So you are NOT a father then. I agree that ideals are forced upon kids 90% of the time, but my two sons hardly follow any of my likes, hobbies etc, but if they did I would encourage it 100%. It is extremely hard to "pre-programme" children and get them to do what you want. The complications arise when a parent forces the child's natural aptitude for a given task (for want of a better word) to levels beyond their usual remit. Getting your son to jam along to music and show aptitude can be descibed as normal sometimes.
