Well I would put Green Day at the bottom of any list personally. It's punk music for kids. Hate it.
THE RAMONES-great great band, but you only need to own IT'S ALIVE and you have everything that encapsulates them
THE WHO-I have never been a great fan. This does'nt mean that I don't like them.I have just never really got into them.
THE CLASH-Great band, highly influential. Some tracks did'nt always work, but they were always willing to explore new sounds and pay homage to both their punk AND reggae roots.
SEX PISTOLS-BODIES is one hell of a punk track, but they were the right band at the right time. I like them, but I much prefer other punk bands.
BAD RELIGION-must confess I don't know much about them. i have one of their albums but have only played it a couple of times. It did'nt blow me away.
DEAD KENNEDYS-Biafras voice has always annoyed me to some extent, but their lyrics and attitude showed the intelligent side of punk.
THE STOOGES-Great dirty garage rock. Attitude in abundance. Should be held in higher regard especially by critics.
So to rate:
1.THE CLASH
2.THE STOOGES
3.THE RAMONES
4.DEAD KENNEDYS
5.SEX PISTOLS
6.THE WHO
7.BAD RELIGION
8.GREEN DAY
