I was into Blink 182 and Green Day a lot, like most of my friends at the time. Most of those guys quickly got into nu metal and stuff like that, but me and 2 other guys started getting more into what we thought was punk at the time. We found out about bands from each other, and it helped that one of those guys had a group of friends who were about 3 years older - and they were really into punk.

Anyway - most of my favorite early punk bands were Offspring, NOFX, Rancid, Operation Ivy, AFI, Bad Religion, Anti Flag, The Ramones etc. We were all into ska-punk as well - I remember the buzz after Streetlight Manifesto released their first album, which was played A LOT back then. Then one day, I was hanging out at one of the older guy's house and he put on California Uber Alles by the Dead Kennedys. I was blown away, and I went out and bought Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, after which DK quickly became my favorite band. From there, we got more into hardcore.

I think I was lucky to have such a great group of friends, and we were all really passionate about punk music. The older guys had a band, and I remember their first rehearsal - it was in a kitchen, with a 4 stringed guitar and makeshift drums. It was awful, but excellent at the same time, because of the excitement of us having a band within our group. Good days.

I think the first album I bought (except blink albms) was Ribbed by NOFX.
