I don't know why you keep on bringing Johnny Thunders up all the time.I only like the New York Dolls because they have a few good rock n roll tunes you can jump around to , nothing more.I don't think they're that wonderful. You seems to be implying that I go out looking for music saying to myself 'wow I really hope this is emotional'. Like I said thats just one thing I look for in music. There are plenty of other things I look for , creativity , expressionism , cultural significance , artistic merit or whether it makes me want to laugh , cry or jump around the room like an idiot.It's all a part of the experience of feeling what music can give you not just sitting there thinking 'hmmmm nicely executed middle eight there' although if thats what gets you off then go for it.

It's not a bad thing at all, but weither someone sings about their sexually abusive father or their favorite work of Tolken fiction, there are no rules for what lyrics should be about, and the kind of lyrics a song should be about...It would be boring as hell if everybody wrote exactly what The Fall wrote about.

No, you are right there;s nothing wrong with Tolkien lyrics only that I loathe them because I find them so dull. I want some kind of insight to the person singing the songs through the music.
Yes it's nice to hear stories in songs sometimes , but I hate fantasy in general.So anything like that is a no - no in my book.

Which is why I have said over & over & over & over & over again it's POINTLESS soloing I don't like.Maybe your definition of pointless is less widespread than mine but i'm sure there are moments when you lose the will to listen to something because of excessive showing off , after all you hate Dream Theater too , which to me is just cheesy 80s stadium rock with endless wanking.

I beg to differ... I don't deny that a musician can be passionate about his/her music, that would just be stupid. What I am denying is the idea that it affects the music and how good the music is, or that it can be measured to determine how good a song is or how talented a musician is.

Lyrics may matter to you, but being an AC/DC fan myself they mean absolutely nothing to me, they're just a bonus, if they're good, that just makes the song a little better, if they're horrible, then it's not even an afterthought if the music itself is great.

And i'm the opposite , to me if the playing isn't that great I can forgive it if the band has something interesting to say or they capture my imagination in some way. Take Primal Scream for example , they'll never win any awards for musicianship but you can just see their love of music in the influences & nods to many different genres throughout their career. Nobody else thought of mixing Rolling Stones riffs with Acid House beats or mixing bangra with techno & punk. Taking all those many influences and making it sound like a Primal Scream record is a skill in itself and just as important to how well someone can play a guitar if not moreso.
