Prog songs are long for the sake of it. Punk songs are short for the sake of it. Both are stupid generalisations.
Some people would soon criticise jazz and say that jazz musicians use 'exotic'/unusual/non-rock chord progressions for the sake of it, but that's obviously not true.
Some people think prog is pretentious for having long songs. Not all prog has long songs, therefore stupid statement. In the same way, many think alt is pretentious for having long song names. Clearly a stupid statement as not all alt has unnecessarily long song names.
I assure you those generalisations are stupid, and were very well thought out to match the 'quality' of the original comment on prog.
So is anyone going to tell me why all prog is pretentious? All prog, every prog band that is. Because if you're using Dream Theater as the prime example of a prog band, I don't think you've listened to a hell of a lot of prog. Why can't you accept that some music is very technical? Calling it pretentious because the musicians have a lot of technical skill is stupid. And don't try to tell me that all prog fans only like prog - that is ridiculously stupid.

Wow, you basically just repeated your last post, congrats. I guess i'll repeat mine but use smaller words and bold key parts.
Every band
IVE heard has been pretentious. I don't care if its technical, I listen to some technical music
but I think it all sounds technical just for the sake of it. I never said only prog fans like prog, what I meant was all prog fans thinking prog is the best and
most superior genre doesn't help it seem less pretentious. And i've probably listened to ten or twenty prog bands, I don't see why I need to check out a s
hitload to have an opinion on it. I don't see why I need to check out a sh
itload if
I don't like it.
