She's only stabbing it in the brain because it's already halfway through eating the other dogs head. Maybe she doesn't know that when one dog eats another it absorbs that dogs special powers and becomes a super-dog. A bit like in Highlander, or Power Rangers, except with animals, and cannibalism.
