Actually, thats why no-one stands out from 2000 onwards. Its too early to tell. Rome wasn't built in a day kids. There is hope!

i remember the strokes were billed as the new saviours of rock and "the next beatles" a few years ago. what have they done since? released one good debut album and a second that really was quite poor. the white stripes are the only band i can really see being remembered in the future..but thats only becuase of their originality. coldplay for me have produced two really good, indie albums and if they carry on..maybe. wrong forum to talk about coldplay anyway.
