I didn’t see this post when it was first made, but if you check in again, Pop Music Fan, why not start such a thread yourself in the General Music Section? I would suggest tying in any discussion of such older music with more recent musicians who have been influenced by older music and have done their part to preserve it?
Leon Redbone comes to mind, as does Ry Cooder’s Jazz album, which traced back song that were the roots of what became jazz.
