The Commitments

A breath of fresh air in that it isn't about a new band forming and becoming incredibly famous, but rather a local band which builds a following locally but breaks up. Another interesting angle is that the main character isn't a musician but a guy who wants to put a band together and manage it, rather than perform in it.

About a fictional early 60's one hit wonder group. Tom Hanks stands out as a record company bizzer who can be ruthless when it comes to business but shows flashes of humanity as well. The soundtrack album is good as well, especially the song Mr. Downtown.
