I'm pointing out that someone who was huge in their time does not, with the current attention span of music fans of this generation, go on being so. And so when Swift or Sheeran pass on, let's say in forty/fifty years or more, our descendants are more likely to say, who were they than there goes another legend.

Apologies for my poor reading comprehension but I don't think you're giving younger generations enough credit, most young casual music listeners probably don't know the greats of the past, but that's been true of every generation before them, casual music goers tend to only know what's easily available to them and they have other interests so they don't dig any deeper than that, that's always been the case and that's fine, but there will always be people who want to explore the history of music, most young people seem to have one nerdy obsession or another and if it's music they're gonna learn about Carole King and the Carpenters sooner than later.
As for Taylor, no one can really say what her future legacy will be.
