I generally use USB sticks. For one thing, you can get much more on the drive by using the raw files (almost all of which will be read anyway as MP3s) rather than make an "audio CD", which will turn them into files that can only be played on a CD.

However, if you really want to do CDs, there are free progams. One I use is Infracorder, also basically Windows has one built in. Simple enough: just select the files you want in Windows Explorer, copy them (ctrl c duh) and then paste into an empty explorer window. It will then ask you how you want to burn the files. Choose "to be played with a CD player", pop a CD in the tray, hit burn and off you go. As some creatures who are cute and furry and like to suddenly stand up say, simples.
