Ah god, you're too young aren't you? A modem is or was a device that would connect you to the internet way before broadband was a thing. It stands for
modulator/
demodulator, and way back when, you had to have one connected to your telephone line in order to get on the internet. Believe it or not, there was a time when constant connection to the net was not possible, as you were charged the same as a phone call, so the longer you were on the more it cost.

Wood is fine I guess. It's more about whether you want a "real" fire or some sort of substitute. Coal/wood are still open fires that use fossil fuels, so more or less the same to me. I know: one good for environment, one not. Wasn't actually aiming at that idea, it was more a case of which is the more comfortable for you?
