I totally agree that Brian's versions are superior. Though only by a bit.
Actually the Smile Sessions version was the first one I've ever heard. Recorded that is. The first time I heard the song was in the
Inside Pop: The Rock Revolutiondocumentary, and it made me look for it franticly right away.
I prefer the Wilson solo though. I mean the not-perfectness, the rawness of it is what truly takes me. I feel like I was just listening to someone going through some hardships or changes and just talking to me. Though that's obviously not the case, as Brian at the end is like "yeah, all right, let's see what that sounds like" with a most natural voice.
This version is also from the Smile sessions. Though maybe only on the expanded version, I can't remember.
