For a long time you carried a made-up quote in your sig that seemed to imply that Batty and someone else (can't remember who: Chula? Don't think so but someone) was in awe of you. Sure it was a joke, but every time someone read your sig they saw that and it ceased to be a joke fairly quickly.

I've done it a few times, but only in very obvious ways and generally only after they've already done it. In this case, I was mocking Charles's brain worms comment because it was so dumb that I didn't think it deserved a classy retort.
As far as what else you've said....nah, they're just being spiteful in their own respective ways, generally because they don't typically engage in debate without segueing into denigrations and personal attacks that have nothing to do with the actual topic. Average range is about...3-4 posts or so? It used to be more fun to debate about various things around here, but at some point that stopped being the case.

In almost every instance of other posters doing it, it comes across as snide. Besides that, there's plenty of snide behavior and replies here on the regular - have you read the last few pages on this thread? Anything else come across as snide to you?
