I think it's just a misconception that you're better off
yeah the rent is cheaper, but it's because you'll make half as much for the same job and 50% of your income will be transportation

I grew up in south Florida which had public transport but not great public transport... But workable
I moved to NC cause my mom etc lived up here and **** was cheaper. Like way cheaper. Like 650$ a month for a 3 br house while I paid 500 for a dingey studio apt in gang territory in FL. And the minimum wage is the same here at it was there. I've found higher paying jobs here then I ever did there. The actual downside is NC is boring as **** and I can't wait to leave.
