I don't think he comes off as nasty, I think he doesn't care enough to be nasty. He's just super autistic and can't grasp that other people have other perspectives. He thinks he knows about different perspectives, and so he asks questions and makes what he thinks are helpful suggestions, but in actuality he's being casually dismissive and condescending and doesn't even know it.
