Kas Product - Black & Noir
This is a wacky little album that I enjoyed quite a bit.
Right off the bat on the opener "Mind" we are greeted with some cool electronic instrumentation that kind of gives off a panicky, siren-like feel. The singer comes in and she has a great voice that really meshes well with the instrumentation. The title track is immediately up next and goes for the same vibe, I love the metallic synths. On Spotify this album is called "Mutant Synth-Punk from France" and I love that, it's such a great description of the kind of vibes I'm getting. Like I'm envisioning a setting that is a mixture of Mad Max and Blade Runner.
The tone changes quite a bit on "Seven" but it's still pretty solid, reminds me of some early Clash. "Take Me Tonight" is more up tempo and feels a bit like a dance track. It's a bit repetitive and a little overly long, clocking in as the longest song on the album. The next few tracks kind of float by, I enjoyed them but it's getting more difficult to differentiate the songs. I like the injection of some more discernible guitar on tracks like "Mezzo" and "Electric," which is definitely my favorite of the bunch. Very cool jam, that one.
We get a much slower song in "Party" which is probably the best display of the vocalist's talents on the album. Very nice closer, since the subsequent track is just 30 seconds of whatever and then the album is over.
Overall I definitely liked this album. There's a period in the middle of it that flew by me without making much of an impression, but overall I definitely appreciate the unique vibe that this band went for. I doubt I'll come back to this album, but for what it is I'd give it a strong
7/10.
