I could never. I tried crate training when he was a pup and he just cried and tore up his snoot trying to break free. I gave up after like 30mins. He needs exercise and mental stimulation and socialization so daycare is perfect for when I'm at work. He's been going for like 2 years now, he has a ton of dog friends.
