Kinda off topic, but is Metallica's Black Album considered to be a pop-thrash record or just....I dunno, borderline grunge?

Isn't Hell Awaits your favorite Slayer album? That one is almost a prog-metal record in some ways, so maybe your sense is that Slayer aren't really a pure thrash band because they embraced other musical elements very early on in their career.
