I think that a constant of forum culture is that forums seem to always eventually devolve into becoming clique dominated. I'd say that the more specific effects that usually has change depending on what those cliques revolve around and who they're made up of. And because many aspects of forum culture are usually ****ty, cliquiness ends up becoming conducive to the plebitude (pun intended) of spaces where crap can fester.
