The last time I got a speeding ticket, I decided to challenge it in court. No lawyer needed. I went to the courthouse on the date that was given to me and was asked to meet privately with the cop that wrote the ticket and his supervisor. They asked me to tell my side of the story and afterwards they said "we'll lower the fine from $230 to $50 if you agree to pay it or you can go before the judge and we'll ask for the full $230 of you're found guilty." I was prepared to challenge the ticket in court on a technicality (even though I knew I was guilty) but at that point I figured I'd just pay the lowered fine and not waste any more of my time at the courthouse. The best part was that It never showed up on my record so my insurance wasn't affected.
