Store managers get bonuses for keeping food costs and customer complaints to a minimum, which makes them care more about those issues more than minimum wage crew members whose only motivation is to not get fired. If I had a similar monetary stake then I might just care enough to do the same. Throw in some of the training managers receive to keep the store running beyond the level of simply making sandwiches and cooking product and perhaps I might be capable as well as motivated to do the same work along with my fellow workers as a collective enterprise. You don't need the whip if everyone wants the business to succeed as much everyone else.
