Watching
Jaws is always a good option, as is
Blade Runner and/or
Alien. But yeah, stick with Stan: I really think you'll get into it. The sly pokes at horror tropes, the basic way he blunders through every encounter with the supernatural, his "aw ****!" when he comes up against an enemy ... just great. Really refreshing show. Also: lots and lots of gore.
What more could you want?
