I couldn't ever imagine that kind of behavior among my own countrymen, even if people who vote for the completely opposing parties met in the same room. A basic sense of tolerance and respect seems to be missing in the US - or at least to be somewhat diminishing... thoughts from any US residents?

Everyone in America is a reactionary right now and our deteriorating educational system combined with the embracement of anti-intellectualism has reduced our political discourse to emotional and tribal bickering. I don't think that it's just America, either. If your country was as large and diverse as the US, it might seem more realistic to you.
