Anything more advance I double check with Google or Bing translator. I knew about "Ihnen" but I google the phrase just in case (worried of certain Grammatik-Polizei) and ended up copying the erroneous "ihnen" anyway. I make more mistakes worrying about making mistakes. Now you know my secret, ich bin müde.
edit: I not only check Google for German, but also English. I did this so often I was flagged as a bot. True story, no lie.

I get you. I took four years of French (actually, four and a half), got mostly A's, and I remember virtually none of it. I can usually figure out basic text, but I can't speak it, and when listening, it might as well be Swahili.
