The album has an odd kind of atmosphere to it. I'd argue it's his least accessible album since Lodger. There's a kind of cold vibe to the album, which feels like a sharp shift after the several previous albums sounding rather warm and welcoming.
While I perhaps don't like this album quite as much as Heathen and Reality yet, it's definitely very good and still a 5/5. Hard for me to pick a favorite track, but they're all more than solid.
Now that we're all the way through, I looked back over my past ratings and it seems the 90's and onwards are my favorite time in Bowie's career - just by virtue of how many of my favorites are from that era.
My all time favorite David Bowie albums:
The Man Who Sold The World
Station to Station
Low
Heroes
Labyrinth OST
Black Tie White Noise
Buddha of Suburbia OST
1. Outside
Earthling
Heathen
Reality
The Next Day
Blackstar
