This song is on the shortlist of my top 10 songs. The music and lyrics just go so perfectly together in a phanastmagorical way that is almost Lovecraftian. It sounds like you're sat around the durn campfire with some other cowboys in the middle of Texas and some guy starts singing and turns out he's not even human and you don't know anything else. The only artist I know who can evoke this feeling is Townes and even he could never quite nail it down like this again.
