There's something about Shakira I like. Maybe it's her dedication to her country's language; she has after all, despite becoming a superstar in the English-speaking world, gone on to release Spanish language albums throughout her career, with two of her last four being in that language. She also writes her own material and seems to be a pretty serious pop star and singer who's come up the hard way, the traditional way, ie through dint of hard work and determination instead of having everything handed to her.
“When a Woman”, one of only three tracks sung in English here, is great, and “Amarillo” has a vaguely AOR-ish feel to it. Unsurprisingly, given the title, “Trap” is a trap song which works very well, and “Coconut Tree” just reeks of a holiday on golden sands under blue skies with nothing to worry about.

“La Bicicleta” and “Deja Vu” both have that cool, laid back Latin feel, skipping along nicely, and “What We Said” nods back a little to the basic rhythm of her big hit “Hips Don't Lie”. Maybe. Nice ballad to end on, closing out a pretty cool album, but if I have to choose between the two Colombian ladies, I'm going with Arenas.
