Definitely British Invasion influenced. I think he did a tour or two in England Pre-Beatle invasion.
He was also the first one to technically chart with a Beatle song. He recorded From Me To You not long after the Beatles did and it made the Bubbling Under on Billboard in 1963. Not a great version, but interesting trivia none the same.
