I'm late to the Kendrick party, I bought TPAB blind because I heard such good things about it, and I didn't like how it didn't sound exactly like it. It's gotten to be about 1a and 1b with TPAB.
The bolded is what I really do enjoy about the record. It's brilliantly crafted on a lyrical level. I don't really see what it drew in from TPAB that wasn't present on any of his other records though. As far as "doing things right," I'm sure that Kendrick wanted the album to sound exactly like it did, the outcome just happens to either bore or annoy me. Not a huge fan of GKMC either but at least it has a dark vibe that I can get behind. Have you ever had back injuries from cringing? That's what DAMN. does to me.
