Having given Painted Ruins some more listens, I do find it to be a good album. It's not one with any songs that are really going to jump out at you. However, the song I think is the best/most interesting is Glass Hills. The segment starting around 1:04 sounds like Steely Dan. It's basically like a prog rock song. One thing I don't like about the album - and it is really really annoying: There is WAY too much sound compression on it. I dislike sound compression as it is, but it seems to be taken to an unnecessary height here. I find it to be very very distracting and makes the album really kinda hard to listen to.

The guy on The Needle Drop had the same complaint.
