After finishing a few more titles by Thich Nhat Hanh today, I've moved on to an intriguing book by Scott Galloway titled,
The Four: The Hidden DNA of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google (2017).
After enjoying
The Googlization of Everything (and Why We Should Worry) by Siva Vaidhyanathan back in 2011, I am definitely eager to explore the socio-cultural and economic implications of what Galloway has dubbed, The Four Horsemen of the global economy. The book is written with an editorial flare which keeps the otherwise drab subjects of economics and business engaging and entertaining.
Galloway introduces the subject with a brief history of enterprise, from hunter-gatherers to the corner store, to the age of malls and big box stores before the unparalleled explosion of e-commerce. He frames each of these revolutions in the context of their respective impact on the consumer and then dives into the histories of the seemingly indomitable behemoths which now rule the market.
In the final chapters, Galloway explores what we can learn from the success of these corporations and postulates where the Four are taking us in the years ahead.
And of course, I found this latest read... in a post... on Facebook.
