Yeah I also grew up in a red neck town where songs about beer, trucks, and screen doors were local youth anthems. I have a very low tolerance for anything twangy as a result.

Metal is another challenging one, despite how varied the genre is. There are just a lot of different aesthetics to it that I disliked, which at best are present in twos or threes on an album, and at worst, define it.

BUT again, if you listen to enough, you'll find something you love. Thank god for blackgaze. Post-rock and shoegaze was my way in.
