There's also emotional cheating-- or close friendships which become vaguely romantic and very emotionally intimate yet not sexual, which some consider to be far worse than strictly physical cheating. Occasionally, I'll hear my neighbor's wife drunkenly screaming at him [and throwing things] late at night about some brief, long-distance Facebook tryst/friendship he had years and years ago. I worry about him sometimes. They both seem miserable.
Sometimes when I'm feeling bad about my most recent failed relationships, I read about one of the horrific soap opera-esque nightmare scenarios on r/Relationships for 5 minutes and feel grateful.
