Rather than focusing on the musical talent of the female-identified musicians they admired, some people just focused on looks. Yeah, that's par for the course all over the interwebs, but I was hoping to find a respite from some of that in a forum devoted to music discussion. It didn't feel like a home for me, so I moved on. I returned with the hopes that maybe things have changed a little. We'll see. I'd like to meet more women with similar taste in music.

Oh I see; you do seem vaguely familiar. I lurked here quite a while before joining too but yes, that's certainly unfortunate that that was the case back then. I've experienced it on various online communities, too. Based on what you've listed
("particularly morose indie pop music from the '80s and '90s, anything dark, atmospheric, haunting, cinematic, beautiful, eerie" especially) though it seems like we have rather similar taste. Are you on Spotify or Tumblr or anything by the way? And do you happen to like Chelsea Wolfe, Julee Cruise or Anna von Hausswolff?
