119. High On Fire - Snakes for the Divine (2010)

High on Fire, one of the greatest metal bands out there right now, have been doing this for a while. Almost 20 years of excellence. Fun fact, without these guys there would be no Mastodon due to the members of that band actually meeting at an early High on Fire show. This album rivals Death is this Communion in almost every way. Any album that can match up to that one deserves to be heard. Some may argue that Matt Pike is losing a little strength in his vocal delivery, I disagree and continue to fight for this record. Every track is excellent, but a real standout would be the fantastic title track opener. Also Bastard Samurai is one of the bands most over the top tracks to date, and I love it. They lyrics are crazy, the delivery is on point, the instrumentation is wild. Overall, I could not be more impressed with this album and this band. Back to back near masterpieces in the genres of stoner and sludge is an impressive feat. If you have heard one, you simply must listen to the other.
