It's always good when someone takes an interest in this thread, and to judge from your selections, Mr. Charlie at last has a soulmate. The Long Surrender tracks sound pretty interesting.
On YouTube I've just come across Nass Marrakech. They have an innovative approach to traditional Moroccan gnawa music, apparently; whatever they do, the result is a dreamy, jazzy, mid-tempo style that I really like:-
